The 109 East Palace room in "Telling New Mexico" uses excerpts from letters, journals and telegrams to explore the secrecy surrounding the Manhattan Project.
Exhibitions are a highlight of any visit to the New Mexico History Museum. They introduce visitors to a broad range of the cultures, communities, and events that have shaped this land for centuries.
Telling New Mexico, our core exhibition, provides an overview of the last four hundred years of regional and state history. It begins with an acknowledgement of indigenous life during the pre-contact period, explores Spanish colonization and the American territorial period, and ends with noteworthy events of the 20th century.
Part of our mission at the New Mexico History Museum is to draw out the stories of our state, from the south to the north, and from the diverse communities who call this place home. Some exhibitions provide a broad overview, while others delve deeper into topics in history books that have only appeared as footnotes.
Long term and changing exhibitions aim to offer our visitors a better understanding of our state.
